| The
purpose of this Mission Project was to reach out into
our immediate community. The Garden grows in the shadow
of our steeple. The people who live around the Garden
can see our church from their homes, but many do not know
the love of Christ from inside our church fellowship.
It is a perfect opportunity to be in the community where
we worship on Sunday mornings. The
Garden also provides an opportunity to provide fresh
vegetables to the Soup Kitchen and the Smithfield Rescue
Mission. We are canning tomatoes for use in the Soup
Kitchen this winter. Future plans include letting community
members “adopt” a planter to plant, weed, water and
harvest. In return, those planter gardeners will be
asked to give a portion of what they grow back to the
Garden to continue food distribution to those in the
area, including the Soup Kitchen and Rescue Mission.
It is a dream
to fill the lots with planters, host cookouts with the
community neighbors, teach others to garden and can/preserve
food, and more importantly, do as Jesus did, plant seeds
of love and faith in our community. If you would like
to become involved contact Michelle Ball (989.9123)
