2009 FBC Smithfield All Youth Mission Trip Brunswick, GA - July 19-25
SIGN UP ENDS FEB. 16!!!!!!!!!!
The 2009 Mission trip to Brunswick, Brunswick GA is special, because it will be an exclusive mission trip for the Youth of FBC. Everything from the meals to supervision of the home construction will be put in place by FBC Smithfield members. A fun experience will be our gathering times at night, which will include worship and fun group activities, like games and talent shows. This Mission Trip is available to all youth (7th –College). The cost for this trip is $100 per person. We are encouraging ALL youth (and College students who are able) to join us for this years mission trip.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST SIGN UP BY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16 ($50 due)

PRE-PROJECT STUDY STARTING WED. FEB. 18
6:30 pm in Ryberg Hall
Starting in the winter on Wednesday nights, all Mission Trip participants should attend this 6 week study (Starting Feb. 18) to prepare for their mission trip experience.

FUNDRAISER LUNCHEON
Make plans to join us immediately after church on Sunday, February 22 for the Youth Fundraiser Luncheon. The cost is a donation to the 2009 Mission Trip to Brunswick, Georgia. The menu is Italian Chicken, Hash Brown Casserole, Green Beans, Rolls, Dessert and Beverage.

PRIMETIMERS’ WINTER/SPRING OUTINGS
Tuesday Feb. 17 - Southern Supreme Fruitcake Company, Meet at the church to depart at 8:30 a.m.. Return to the church by early afternoon. Don’t forget transportation fee is due that day.

Tuesday April 21—Cape Fear Riverboats lunch cruise, Wilmington. Depart 9 a.m. have lunch and tour 12-1:30, visit Cotton Exchange and other shopping areas, return home by late afternoon. Lunch/tour cost (includes service and tax) is $24, pay when signing up by April 3. Transportation cost to be paid day of trip approximately $8 (more or less depending on how many go)

ROCK-A-THON, FRIDAY, FEB. 20 (8 P.M. – 8 A.M.)
PANCAKE BREAKFAST SATURDAY, FEB. 21, 8 A.M.
Whitney Carter and Muriel Lasater are both candidates for the Queen of Hearts program which is sponsored by the American Red Cross. As candidates, they have dedicated the entire month of February to planning fundraisers for the American Red Cross, one of which will be this Rock-A-Thon. A Rock-A-Thon is an event where individuals will rock in rocking chairs and they will have sponsors that will donate money for each hour that they rock. The Rock-A-Thon will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 8 p.m. on February 20th to 8 a.m. on February 21st. At 8 a.m. when the Rock-A-Thon ends there will be a pancake breakfast for anyone and everyone to come to. 100% of the donations from the breakfast will go to the American Red Cross. We would love to have your participation as we raise money to benefit others. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Also, we are looking for rocking chairs to be donated for our Rock-A-Thon. If you have one that you would like to donate you can contact Muriel Lasater at (919) 989-8674 and Whitney Carter at (919) 989-4841. If you would also like to rock in the Rock-A-Thon you can contact us as well about that.

“RUNNING THE RAPIDS”
Attention parents: “Running the Rapids” is a six session study for guiding teenagers through the turbulent waters of adolescence. The study will be led by Lee Colbert on Sunday nights beginning February 15th from 6:45 – 8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room

SUMMER COLLEGE STUDENT MINISTRY INTERN
First Baptist Church is accepting resumes for a Summer Ministry Intern who will work with the Youth ministry and some of the children’s summer programming. Applicants must have completed their second year of college, have a sense of calling toward full time Christian Ministry, and be an active participant in at least one Christian organization at college. Interested students should forward their resume by mail, with a letter of interest and three references to First Baptist Church, 202 S. MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
The North Carolina Mission Conference is March 20 – 21 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. The topic is “The Power of One” with keynote speaker Franklin Graham. If you would like to attend, you need to register and reserve hotel lodging ASAP! You may register online at www.ncmissions.org or pick up a registration form and hotel information in the church office.

Plans are in motion for a Medical Mission Trip to Honduras June 6. Non-medical volunteers are needed as well as nurses, pharmacists and doctors. If you are interested please call Anesha Johnson at 934-1601

MITCHINER SCHOLARSHIP
The Johnston Baptist Association Woman’s Missionary Union Mitchiner Scholarship is accepting applications from seniors (boys or girls) in the Baptist churches in the Johnston Association. Applications are available in the church office and need to be completed and received in the Johnston Baptist Association office by March 16, 2009. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Congratulations to the following First Baptist young people who were selected for All County Band Clinic last weekend at West Johnson (those in bold were also in All District Band January 31): Bryan Council, Hinton Edgerton, Cliff Johnson, Brandon Allen (first chair flute), Abby Johnson, Kevin Crumley, Madison Garris (first chair trumpet), Mallory Barnes. We salute these youth for their musicianship and anticipate hearing them play for worship!

HANDBELL ARTIST IN CONCERT
Make plans to join us Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary for a solo handbell concert by Christine Anderson. This worship concert will feature traditional sacred, praise and worship, and secular. Ms. Anderson is world renowned concert artist who has worked for Schulmerich and Malmark handbells, arranged music for solo ringing, and led handbell conferences nationwide. No charge for admission, a love offering will be taken.

“SHOW US YOUR HOPE”
Sunday March 8 at 4 p.m. is the “Show Us Your Hope” Variety Show Fundraiser for Relay for Life. Many local musicians will perform, including talented persons from our own church family. A love offering will be taken to benefit our church’s Relay for Life team. Plan to attend and be inspired!!

RELAY FOR LIFE
Meeting: There will be a Relay for Life meeting on Sunday, March 1 at 3:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
