So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him

FOCUS ON WMU WEEK
February 17-23, 2008 is “Focus on WMU” week at Smithfield First Baptist. It has been chosen as a special week of prayer and offering (Heck-Jones) for our Woman’s Missionary Union of North Carolina. The offering goal is $1.2 million. The goal at our church is $5,000.00.

The theme for the week, “WMU our heritage, our heart, and our hope,” emphasizes three areas that have contributed to the unique ministry of 120 years as the life line for missions and missionaries.

Our heritage – has consistently and unceasingly been the prayer support for missions and missionaries and the primary missions education organization for all ages. WMU has made a difference in the world as they have “stirred” the larger body of believers to “go and tell.”

Our heart – is to love God and to share that love with the world.

Our hope – is God pulls us into the future. Our hope allows us to affirm the reality of the abundant life in Christ that is available for all. Our hope allows us to stand with those in pain and to hold them until they are able to feel the love of God for themselves. Our hope allows us to work even when we see no results. Our hope begins and ends with God.

Women in our church are living the call and sharing their love for Christ as they reach out to help our Christian brothers and sister in the community, state and nation.

When you receive your 2008 Heck-Jones offering envelope, please give generously to help support the WMU of North Carolina.

Your loyal support for the women at First Baptist is deeply appreciated. May God bless you as you continue to help us with our missionary projects.

Mary Ashe, a member of the WMU Executive Board, will talk about WMU this Sunday, February 17 at the 10:55 a.m. service. Ruby Fulbright, Executive Director-Treasurer, will be at our church on March 15, 2008 to talk about WMU.

Through the program the girls are given loving support that they may not get from home. They are taught how to take care of their babies. They go around to county schools talking with other students about how hard it is to be a teen parent. Each of these girls are in need financially and emotionally. I’ve listed some of the things that we need to collect. We’ll take new or gently used. If you would like to make a donation and let us do the shopping we’ll be happy to.
