So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him

YOUTH SUNDAY AT FIRST BAPTIST

Our youth have accepted leadership roles for Youth Sunday at FBC with the theme being “We Are The Body.” They are divided into teams to teach all of the adult Sunday School classes and will lead the 10:55 a.m. worship service. LENT BEGINS THIS SUNDAY MARCH 1
Lent is the 40 day period of repentance and renewal preceding Easter. The word “lent” is derived from the Middle English “Lente” which means “springtime.” It begins on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 25) and ends with the Easter service on April 12. Lent is a special time for meditation, prayer and penitential practices, increase understanding of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, and a renewal of commitment to the Christian life. At First Baptist, we will begin Sunday morning worship each week with the symbols of sacrifice. Family members will read scripture, place an object on the communion table, and reflect on its meaning. Also during Lent comes Operation Inasmuch (March 28), Spring Revival (March 29-April 1), and a special musical drama (Palm Sunday morning April 5 at 10:55, “Come, Touch the Robe.”) We have an opportunity to worship each Wednesday with area churches at First Presbyterian at 12:15 p.m.

MUSIC NOTES
This Friday-Saturday nineteen adult members of our two bell choirs, Praise Ringers and First Baptist Belles, will travel to Hickory to the West Baptist Adult Bell Festival. Our special director will be Anna Laura Page, who writes much of the bell and choral music that our church loves. This past Monday Feb. 23 our Minister of Music, Kelley Garris, traveled to First Baptist Laurinburg to sing with the NC Baptist Singers in concert there. The singers will be in OUR church on Monday May 18.

A GLIMPSE INTO WORLD RELIGIONS
Campbell University Divinity School will be hosting “A Glimpse Into World Religions – Helps for Understanding and Witnessing” on Monday, March 2. HOSPITALITY VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR A NEW SHORT TERM MINISTRY
Each Friday (from 8:30 until 2 p.m.) from February until April 15th there is a free tax service in the Fellowship Hall sponsored by the Council on Aging and the AARP. There, many people in our area come to our church to get their taxes prepared. The church staff has had the vision to be hospitable by providing coffee and desserts while clients wait. Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen that this has been very appreciated and has made their waiting environment a little more tolerable. We would like to invite anyone willing to help set up for this outreach opportunity. Responsibilities would be making coffee, setting up the table (putting out deserts, water and information about our church) and clean up. You would not need to be present the entire day. If you are interested, please contact Bryan Harris or Tommy Cook at the church.

PRAYER CORNER FOR OPERATION IN AS MUCH
“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” Matthews 25:40 Please be in prayer for the many project teams that will be involved in OIAM on March 28th. Pray for the coordinators as they organize each project. Pray for workers to sign up and for God’s provision during this preparation phase. Philippians 4:6 tells us “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Paul is telling us that everything we do should be covered in prayer. I Thessalonians 5:17 instructs us to “pray continually.” From this we understand that prayer should precede any work that we do in His Name and it should continue throughout the process. As you pray faithfully for OIAM, pray that the Lord will lead you to sign up for the project that He has planned for you.

A weekly prayer guide will be posted to the Prayer page of the church Website each Wednesday morning. http://fbcsmithfield.org Note: There will be a time of prayer for OIAM from 6:00 – 6:15 on Wed. evenings in the church library beginning this week. Please join us for focused prayer.
