So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him

YOU ARE INVITED

You are invited to the Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremony for Anna Campbell and Tori Lippit this Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

THISTORY TIDBIT

James Dennis remained pastor until 1848 or 1849. In 1839 the membership had grown to 145 and in 1941 his salary increased to $125 a year. His pastorate built a strong foundation for the church.

MUSIC NOTES
This Sunday evening at 7 p.m. the Young Disciples Youth Choir will present a worship concert in our church. They are from Pine Level Free Will Baptist, directed by pastor Donald Coates. Several of our youth participate in this group.

Have you considered attending worship at the early service time? (8:45) Since November, this service has taken a more modern, blended approach, using the screen and projector, many of the modern worship songs, and creative elements such as drama, signing, and active participation of the congregation. At least once a month, the new adult ensemble, SOS2, leads the singing, and other ensembles of adults and youth are leading as well. During this season of Lent, we are enjoying a series of skits entitled “Whose Cross Is It Anyway?” A dedicated delivery man who works for JPS (Jerusalem Postal Service) is trying to deliver a cross, but no one wants to claim it. We meet many “characters” from biblical and modern times who one by one make excuses for why they must refuse delivery. Danny Hensley is the JPS man each week. Please join us!

Kelley Garris will be participating in a worship concert of the NC Baptist Singers at Winter Park Baptist in Wilmington on Monday March 5. Many of you have asked how much money was collected at the January 29 concert in our church, designated to be given to the Memorial Church in Greenville which was destroyed by fire. The amount was $2734. Thank you!

Twenty adults and teens traveled to Snyder Church in Fayetteville last Fri.-Sat. Feb. 23-24 to attend the East Adult Baptist Handbell Festival. They joined 22 other bell choirs from our area (and over 40 in the western part of the state meeting in Concord) in rehearsing six handbell numbers and presenting a worship concert. Did you know that of all the states in the SBC, North Carolina has the MOST churches with active handbell ministries?

Congratulations to many of our middle and high school youth who participated recently in All District and All County Band. About 15 of these talented young people will be playing this Sunday morning, March 4, as part of a senior high instrumental ensemble leading worship on Youth Sunday (10:55 service) Our own church’s youth praise band, PB&J, will also lead the congregational singing.

Thank you to the volunteers who are helping Lenten worship happen! Last Sunday Feb. 25 the bulletin cover for 10:55 was drawn by Doug Strickland, and this week it is by Ruth Andrews. These covers reflect the theme of the morning’s Lenten Candle reading which opens the service.

PRIMETIMERS OUTING
Thursday, March 15th at 3:00 p.m. a bus will leave First Baptist for Greensboro Coliseum to hear Dr. David Jeremiah of Turning Point Ministries. There is no cost for the trip other than a donation for gas. The group will eat a dutch fast food supper. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. Call the church office to sign up.

NORTH AMERICAN MISSIONS
March 4th – 11th is our Week of Prayer for North American Missions. We will have a mission study on Wednesday the 7th led by Mary Nell & Jerry Ferguson. Our very important Annie Armstrong Easter Offering has a national goal of $57 million, and our church goal is $5,000. The theme for the week is Change your World. Pray for our missionaries. Southern Baptists are committed to supporting more then 5,300 missionaries serving in North America. PRAY and GIVE.

OIAM is Saturday, April 21. The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until God is finished. The OIAM Design Team has met and will continue to work so needs in our community can be identified and ministered to. Our team acknowledged the importance of not just having a successful event but instead “Let’s Do Kingdom Work.” That is our theme for this year’s OIAM. Will each of us pick up our cross and be part of the missions mindset at FBC Smithfield? Projects will be posted within the next two weeks. Be in prayer and commitment to being the hands and feet of Jesus on April 21 and throughout the year.

THANK YOU
What a blessing it is to be a part of such a loving, caring fellowship of God’s people! We thank all of you for supporting us with your prayers, for the cards, the kind words of comfort, the flowers and for making the trip to Tabor City to support us during the loss of my mother Alice Wright. Henry and Joyce Wright.

Thank you for the many acts of kindness shown to us in the passing of Carolyn’s sister, Mildred Paulus of Houston, Texas. Your calls, visits, cards, food and prayers meant so much to us. We are very grateful for such a caring and loving church family. Harold and Carolyn Tharrington.

We are so grateful to our Pastor and wonderful church family for your kind expressions of love and sympathy in the passing of my dear mother, Margaret McLemore Lee. We will always be grateful for your love, and we are further inspired to be unto others what you have been unto us. Mary Nell Ferguson and Family
