PRAYER
CORNER FOR OPERATION IN AS MUCH
“Greater love has no one than this, that
he lay down his life for his friends.” John
15:13
In 1956, pilot Nate Saint and four other missionaries
were killed in Ecuador by the Auca Indians they
had come to serve. Many years later after these
same Indians had come to know Christ, one of them
told Nate’s son, Steve, that he was the
man who took his father’s life. Steve said
to him “You didn’t take my father’s
life, he gave it!” Most of us are not called
to be missionaries in a foreign country where
we might be in danger of losing our life for Christ.
However, we are called to serve others when and
where He gives us the opportunity. Have you prayed
for the Lord’s guidance in where to serve?
Have you signed up for an OIAM Team? What are
you waiting for? The OIAM Prayer Team meets each
Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 6:15 in the
church library for focused prayer. Join our team!
Your presence is needed! No sign-up required!
A
weekly prayer guide will be posted to the Prayer
page of the church Website each Wednesday morning.
http://fbcsmithfield.org Note: There will be a
time of prayer for OIAM from 6:00 – 6:15
on Wed. evenings in the church library beginning
this week. Please join us for focused prayer.

“Look
to our church today, the fellowship as it were,
that it may be a true and a genuine fellowship
in Christ – not just a group of people self-satisfied
in their selection of each other or looking for
somebody else to receive in a condescending way.
But let this be a fellowship where every man denies
himself in favor of his neighbor, where each of
us, because we would be like Jesus, strives honestly
and sincerely to love his neighbor as himself.”
--Rev. John L. Ryberg
“John
Ryberg always spoke his mind. Not everybody liked
that about him. Not everybody liked what he had
to say. But everybody knew him to be a man of
integrity, a true man of God. That trait is reflected
in the prayers on these pages. His Sunday morning
prayer set the tone for the morning’s worship
and for the message that would soon follow. They,
like his sermons, were provoking, inspiring, often
challenging. He was our pastor from 1960 until
his death, December 13, 1984. For 23 years Mr.
Ryberg challenged us to be ‘intellectually
respectable, socially responsible and spiritually
redemptive.’
--William H. Perry
