HISTORY TIDBIT
Register of Deeds records show that the 1834 deed to the church property was not presented until 1869 to be recorded. Since both grantors, James Mitchiner and Thomas Lockart, Jr., were deceased, James Dennis, then pastor and witness to the deed, had to be contacted to verify the authenticity of the deed. Dennis was living in Mississippi at the time. He was contacted with the help of a Mississippi official, affirmed the viability of the deed, and it was recorded in the Register of Deeds office in Johnston County on August 13,1868.
