So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him

YOUTH NEWS
FBC Youth Group Sunday evening meetings are in recess for the summer.

THE LOWLY PENNY
As most of you know our youth are sponsoring a village in Swaziland, Mpolonjeni, Africa, one of the hardest hit areas by AIDS. One way that we are trying to raise funds is to collect pennies every Sunday before and after worship. If you would like to bring your pennies (other coins will work, too) our youth will be glad to take them off your hands. Please help us “stretch” our pennies to reach out and touch this village.

WHERE’S YOUR PICTURE?
Attention High School Seniors…We are missing pictures. We would like to get your Senior picture and information on what you will be doing after graduation for a special insert in the bulletin on Graduate Sunday. If you have not submitted your picture and information PLEASE bring to the church office or email to Tommy at tommy@fbcsmithfield.org ASAP. LAST DAY PICTURES WILL BE ACCEPTED WILL BE TUESDAY, MAY 29TH.

SENIOR HIGH BREAKFAST
Sunday, June 3rd during Sunday School we will enjoy a “continental breakfast” and a time of sharing with our Seniors. Also Senior, please bring your cap and gown…..you will march in and be recognized at the 10:55 worship service.

HISTORY TIDBIT
By 1905 the church membership had grown to 147 and services were held on two Sundays a month. The pastor’s salary was raised to $350 a year. While Suttle was pastor in Smithfield, he also served Bethesda, Pisgah, Sardis, Princeton, Four Oaks, Blackmon’s Grove, Carter’s Chapel, Benson, Hood’s Grove, and Wilson Mills at one time or another. Many of these were missions of the Smithfield church and he helped them get off the ground.
THANK YOU
Dear Church Family, Thank you for all your cards and prayers during the recent passing of my mother. Your many expressions of love and kindness were greatly appreciated. Sam Newsome and family

ATTENTION COUPLES SUMMER BIBLE STUDY
What is the destiny of your marriage? Join us this summer for six video based lessons by Dr. Gary Smalley on five commitments that determine the destiny of your marriage. The class will meet on Thursday nights from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m in Room 221 (upstairs across from the Youth Room.). The sessions will last for six to seven weeks (nursery will not be provided.) The class will begin on June 7th and is limited to six couples, preferably engaged couples or those married less than 10 years. After 10 years of research, this book will help you to develop a marriage where you both have the freedom to be open and secure without fear of being criticized, blamed or judged by each other, a safe place where your relationship grows deeper naturally. The following are several points that will be touched on in this class:

  • Five core promises that double your security and marriage satisfaction in one week!
  • Three powerful ways to improve your relationship with God.
  • Learn the biggest marriage mistake that most couples make.
  • Why marital trials and irritations are the secret to intimacy.
  • Six levels of communication (most couples only get to the second & third level).
  • Three ways to help your spouse win every argument... while you win.
  • A new way to serve your spouse by identifying their key needs.
  • There will be a small charge for materials. Last day to sign up is May 31st. For more information call Terry Carroll at 934-5882.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
Relay for Life is next weekend (June 1 – 2). We still need donations of hamburgers, chili, funnel cake mix, french fries and paper plates. If you are able to donate any of these items or money with which to buy these items, contact Carolyn Jones, Gale Stanfield or Jennifer Moore. Anything we are able to get donated will not have to be paid for out of the money we raise for the American Cancer Society. Thank you for your help.

FLOWERS SUNDAY
The flowers Sunday will be given by Ralph and Golda Pittman in loving memory of Helen and John Herring, Isabel and Leon Thompson, Julia and Kenneth Thompson, Reubin Thompson, and A.J. Thompson and in commemoration of Memorial Day honoring our veterans of all wars.

NEW ARRIVALS
Congratulations to Sam and Stephanie Shirley on the arrival of their infant son, Thomas Wade “T.W.” Shirley. The proud grandparents are Douglas and Dianne Shirley

Congratulations to Parry and Cindy Register on the arrival of their infant son and daughter, Luke and Lydia Register. The proud grandparents are Darwin and Carolyn Crumpler.

RELAY FOR LIFE THANK YOU
A special thanks to all who baked and purchased items from the Relay for Life Bake Sale last Sunday. Your support is truly a testimony of God’s love.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The Nominating Committee has begun to meet. This committee has two goals to achieve.

  1. To identify servants for ministry for the upcoming church year, September ‘07- August ’08
  2. To present to the church a completed report confirming the names of those serving in various ministry areas for that year throughout our church.

THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITHOUT YOU!

Please be considering your top three choices for ministry through our fellowship. You may not always be able to serve in your first choice but there are more than enough opportunities for everyone to join in. Being a part of God’s work through our church is not simply an option; it is vital for a developing faith and essential for meeting needs in our community. Christ died for you; make a commitment to serve for Him. God has given every believer a gift. We all need to serve out of our giftedness. Everyone has something they can bring into the ministry mix at FBC.

For ideas on where you can serve please see the current Nominating Committee Report on our web site (www.fbcsmithfield.org).

Please contact any member of the Nominating Committee if you have a question or are interested in serving. Gayle Bizzell, Dan Evans, Evelyn Garris, Bryan Harris, Billy Wiggs, June Ward, Joyce Wright.
