So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him
Hebrews 9:28 (NIV)

If you want to continue making an impact to the community of Mpolonjeni in Swaziland, Africa, you have an opportunity to sponsor a child. Just $35 a month (a little over a dollar a day) benefits a child in this AIDS-affected region, along with his or her family and their community.

FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE SEE OR CALL TOMMY AT THE CHURCH.

ALL HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GRADUATES
All graduates are invited to be honored guests of the church at the Graduate Banquet June 8, 2008 following the 10:55 service. Family members are invited to attend at a cost of $8.50 per person (children 5 – 10 $4.50). Please call the church office by or before Friday, May 30th and let us know if you will be attending and how many from your family will be with you. HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO HELP

Keep that Peanut Butter Coming! - We are still collecting 18 oz. jars of peanut butter for the Backpack Program. This is going to be an ongoing mission here at First Baptist. Please drop your donations at the church office.

Magazines and Bibles – If you have a child of any age who receives a Christian magazine or monthly devotional magazine that you would be willing to give away after your child is finished with them, please call Terry Carroll at 934-5882. We would like to share these materials with children who attend Sunday School at the Flea market. Also, if you have any Bibles you would like to donate, they would be useful too.

THANK YOU
To my church family, Thank you for your cards, phone calls, visits and especially your prayers during my recent hospital stay. I’m blessed to be a part of a wonderful church family. Joan Plowman

MUSIC NOTES
Did you know that our pipe organ is tuned twice a year? It is being tuned this coming Monday June 2. The builders recommend a twice yearly tuning to keep the instrument in prime shape after the seasons change and the heat or air conditioning is turned on in the sanctuary. So, if your ears tell you the organ is slightly “sour,” they are right! It’s time for a tune up! Two technicians from the John Dower company, based in Lincolnton, spend the day at the church, one holding keys, the other in the organ chambers adjusting pipes.

The congregation of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church would like to extend an invitation to you and to your congregation to attend an Choral Evening Prayer service (called Evensong in our tradition) followed by a Choir and Organ concert on Sunday, June 1 at 6:00. This concert marks the 10th Anniversary of the installation of our Organ. The Evensong service contains no sermon or communion, it is purely a prayer service followed by musical worship.

PRAY ABOUT IT
We are so blessed to have people each week to deliver meals to those less fortunate for the Soup Kitchen and on holidays for Meals on Wheels. Maybe you have been looking for a ministry to get involved in. This could be it. If you could give a few hours to help deliver meals, please contact Harvey Evans at 934-7994. It doesn’t have to be every week.

SYMPATHY
We express our Christian sympathy to the family of Charles Jones in his recent homegoing.

Make plans to be a part of the biggest beach blast of the summer! Outrigger Island will be in full swing July 14-18 at FBC Smithfield. We need lots of dudes and dudesses (that’s guys and girls) to make this beach party happen. Please contact the church office to sign up to help. We have had EASILY 300+ for the last several years. WE NEED YOUR HELP- from working in the classrooms to snack time, many volunteers are needed. Planning and preparation is in full swing. So pull out your baggy shorts, flip flops, flowered shirts and hit the beach with us for a week of fun in the “SON” during our week of Vacation Bible School, July 14-18.

NEW ARRIVAL
Congratulations to Buck and Jina Propst on the arrival of their infant son, Benjamin Boylan. The proud grandparents are Jerry & Jeanene Bowman.

YOU’RE INVITED

Worship 11:00 a.m., Open House 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. (Last year when their Sanctuary burned our church went to support them at their time of disaster.)
