YOUTH
NEWS PARENT YOUTH MEETING
Mark your calendar for THIS Sunday, August 19th
at 6:00 p.m. OR Wednesday, August 22nd at 6:30
p.m. for a parent youth informational meeting
for the upcoming year. We will meet in the Fellowship
Hall. See you there.
CASWELL
DVD AND GROUP PICTURE
Caswell DVDs and group pictures are now available.
Please call the church office at 934-9771 or Mike
Ward (934-7075) for your copy. This cost is a
donation to the Mpolonjeni, Africa project.
As
most of you know our youth are sponsoring a village
in Swaziland, Mpolonjeni, Africa, one of the hardest
hit areas by AIDS. One way that we are trying
to raise funds is to collect pennies every Sunday
before and after worship. If you would like to
bring your pennies (other coins will work too)
our youth will be glad to take them off your hands.
We will be collecting through August. Please continue
to help us “stretch” our pennies to
reach out and touch this village. THIS SUNDAY
WILL BE THE LAST WE WILL BE COLLECTING PENNIES,
SO BRING THOSE PENNIES (OTHER CHANGE WELCOME TOO!).
ATTENTION
3RD – 6TH GRADERS
Mark your calendars for September 28 – 30
for a weekend retreat to Camp Oak Hill. The theme
this year is “Good Friends.” On this
weekend retreat we will enjoy Bible study, camp
activities, worship, fun and fellowship. The cost
is $85. You may pick up your registration form
and 2007 Permission Form in the church office.
REGISTRATION, PERMISSION FORMS AND MONEY ARE DUE
BY SUNDAY, AUGUST 26.
WE
STILL HAVE APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE!
Have you made your appointment to have your picture
taken for our 2007 Church directory? Our church
is celebrating its 175th birthday this year and
we hope to make this directory the best ever.
Appointments are still available for August 27
and 28, and September 6, 7, and 8. Call the church
office to make your appointment. The directory
will not be complete without your smiling face.
AFRICA
T-SHIRTS AVAILABLE
I Love Mpolonjeni T- Shirts are available in the
church office. The cost is a $10 donation (or
more) to our Africa project.
HISTORY TIDBIT
In 1935 Mrs. Charles Davis, a member of the church,
donated a painting which was a copy of Hofmann’s
“Christ in Gethsemane”. It was hung
over the choir loft. New pews were installed and
a new Hammond organ was purchased.

ATTENTION
QUILTERS
I am looking for some quilters who might be willing
and able to donate their time to make a quilt
to be raffled off for our Relay for Life team
next year. I have my Relay T-Shirts and would
donate them for the project. Another team did
this last year. The quilt was beautiful and it
raised a lot of money for Relay. Anyone interested,
please contact Carolyn Jones at 934-7742.
BIBLE
STUDY FOR MEN
Beginning September 10, 2007, we’ll have
a discussion style study of Paul’s Letter
to the Romans. Lee Colbert will be there to give
us an overview of the New Testament Book to get
us started. We’ll use a study guide to prepare
us for the following sessions. The group plans
to meet on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. Make plans
now to participate. You can make a contribution
and learn more about the early Christian church
that took over as the official religion of the
Roman Empire under the rule of Constantine. If
you have an interest, please call Steve Adkins
at 919-965-3782 or the church office at 919-934-9771.
Call now. Notice will be sent as a reminder before
the first meeting. We look forward to the fellowship
of studying and learning together. Join us.
OPPORTUNITIES
TO SERVE
We still have needs in various ministry areas.
Sunday School Teachers (beginning September 2)
-
5th & 6th grade
-
Pre-School 3 (Toddlers)
Discipleship Training Teachers on Wednesday
night (Fall Block only- beginning August 29)
-
3rd & 4th grade
- 5th
& 6th grade
Please contact Bryan Harris ASAP if you would
like to serve in these opportunities. Ministry
does not happen without YOU! It has been said,
God would not bless our church with children and
no one to nurture them. We need, the children
need, your involvement. Please take seriously
the opportunity to touch a life through our fellowship.
SCHOOL
SUPPLY NEEDS
It’s time for school to start again and
that means lots of supplies for kids. Unfortunately,
some parents cannot afford this extra expense
and we would like to help by collecting school
supplies. Some supplies that are always needed
are #2 pencils, notebook paper, binders, crayons,
colored pencils, glue sticks, markers, one subject
notebooks, 3 prong pocket folders, Kleenex, wipes
or hand sanitizer and paper towels. If you can
donate any supplies please bring them to the church
office.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUPPERS RESUME
Wednesday Night Suppers will resume on August
29th. We have new cooks; they are Joyce Ann Newton
and Jeannine Stahl (sisters).
Sign
up sheets will be in Sunday School classes. There
will be cards in the pew racks in the Sanctuary
for those who do not sign up in Sunday School.
To
accommodate the cooks schedule with another job,
it is necessary that all calls to the church office
to sign up must be made on Monday either before
the office closes at 5:00 p.m. or left on the
answering machine Monday night (934-9771).
As
a reminder, below are some guideline for Wednesday
Suppers.
-
Cost: $4.00 Adults, $2.00 Children (ages 2-10),
$13.00 max. per family. No charge for children
up to 2 years old. Independent children not
living with family are not part of the “family”
plan.
-
Meals will be served from 5:30 – 6:15.
Children in choir must eat before going to choir.
-
All meals are to be eaten in the Fellowship
Hall. Do not take to choir or classrooms.
-
Parents, if you sign up your child for a child’s
menu, please be sure that it is what your child
gets. Pick up a red ticket when you pay for
the meal.
-
When you finish eating, please take your plate,
silverware and glasses to the clean up area.
If you wish to keep your tea/water, please get
a paper cup. That way the dishwasher can get
everything washed. This also helps those who
are cleaning the tables.
-
We do not encourage take-outs; however, if one
is necessary, sign up when you pay for the meal.
The take-outs will not be ready before 6:30,
and there will be an additional charge of $.50
for each take-out.
? If you realize you cannot be at supper, please
call the church office and cancel.
