LAST

As most of you know our youth are sponsoring a
village in Swaziland, Mpolonjeni, Africa, one
of the hardest hit areas by AIDS. Our youth have
been collecting money throughout the summer for
this village. We want to give everyone one last
chance to bring pennies (other coins will work,
too) for this project. We will collect pennies
through Wednesday, September 5th. Please continue
to help us “stretch” our pennies to
reach out and touch this village.
YOUTH

Don’t worry about cooking, we’ll do
it for you. Mark your calendar for Sunday, September
16th and join us after church for the Youth Fundraiser
Luncheon. All proceeds will go toward Mpolonjeni.

HAVE
LEFTOVERS?
Soup Kitchen will be so happy to take your “leftovers.”
I understand some of you do not like leftover
food. Well, give it to us!! We plan meals for
four individuals to ensure they have a plate of
food seven days a week. Your leftovers can be
a blessing. Call me if you have questions. Anesha

SENIOR HIGH MISSION TRIP GUATEMALA - JULY 18-26
2008
This small country in Central America is home
to over 1.2 million people. Through a relationship
with the Baptist Seminary of Guatemala, groups
will be ministering to these people through a
variety of different home repairs as well as community
ministries, like sports camps and Bible schools.
This is an opportunity to step out of your normal
comfort zone, experience Central American culture
first hand and minister to the people of this
region. The cost includes most of your in-country
expenses, including food, lodging, and air fare
and transportation. This is a great opportunity
to use your God-given abilities to share the love
of Christ in Central America.
This
Mission Trip is available to senior High (9th
–College). There is limited space, so sign
up will have different sign up dates for different
age groups. The cost for this trip is estimated
to be $700 per person. First Mission Trip deposit
is due Sunday, September 9 for College –
11 grade participants along with your Mission
Trip Application. 10 grade applications and deposits
are due September 16. 9th grade applications and
deposits are due September 23. If you have any
questions call Tommy.
PARENTS
OF YOUTH YOUTH & PARENT INFORMATION!
Parents if you missed the youth parent meeting,
please get the new school year information from
the church office, or look to the youth section
of the church’s web site to download the
info and return the parent and youth information
forms to the church. These are important for the
youth ministry at FBC Smithfield.
HISTORY
TIDBIT
The congregation did not have long to enjoy their
newly remodeled church. Around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
December 22, 1942, a fire was discovered in the
building. The furnace had been fired to heat the
building for a rehearsal of a Christmas play.
The exact cause of the fire was never discovered,
but faulty installation of the heating system
was suspected.

WELCOME
TO WORSHIP
Welcome to Worship is a four week class offered
for our First Graders. This will be held during
the 10:55 worship service September 9, 16, 23
and 30. These classes will help our First Graders
to find ways to worship God, learn about baptism
and the Lord’s Supper, and give them some
helpful tools they can use as they join us in
worship. Children will go back to their Sunday
School classroom after the Children’s Sermon
and stay there until you pick them up after worship.
Look for more information in the mail.
CAN
YOU HELP
My name is Alison McMillen. I’m a rising
sophomore at Smithfield-Selma Senior High School
and working on my Girl Scout Gold Award. My desire
is to inspire underprivileged children here in
Johnston County to play soccer. Many of these
children do not participate in organized soccer
teams often because they do not have the proper
equipment i.e. cleats, shin guards, etc. and/or
do not have the basic skills and knowledge of
the game. I am collecting new or gently used soccer
equipment from area churches, organizations and
club soccer teams. These items will be distributed
during clinics through the Smithfield Housing
Authority prior to the Smithfield Parks &
Recreation Fall Soccer season. I would deeply
appreciate your help on this project. I will have
a box located in the church office for soccer
equipment collections through the end of August.
Thank you in advance for your generosity in regards
to this project.
SYMPATHY
We express our Christian sympathy to Heather Barbour
in the recent homegoing of her father, Terry Barbour.

If you could help, please call Tommy at the church
office at 934-9771.
