So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him
Hebrews 9:28 (NIV)

NORTH CAROLINA MISSIONS OFFERING
The North Carolina Missions Offering is perhaps the most important offering. This offering helps support: disaster relief (hurricanes, floods, food, first to respond to the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack), prison ministry, seminary extension, ministry to the military and Cherokee Indians, ministry to the deaf and handicapped, church planters, medical dental bus, and World Changers programs.

When you consider all that this offering helps to accomplish for the Lord, how can we not be moved to give? Please give generously – maybe even sacrificially – that we might accomplish great things for Christ here in North Carolina and to the ends of the earth. This year 34% of our offering will go directly to WMU.

DEACON NOMINATIONS
This Sunday, September 20th we will have the opportunity to select/nominate individuals we would like to serve on our Deacon Board. On Sunday, September 27th we will elect Deacons from those nominated. Please be in prayer for your selection and that the individuals elected will serve our church as God would lead them.

CHURCH WIDE
TEACHER TRAINING
Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 3. We will have a training event designed to meet the learning needs for all age groups in our church. If you are working with Pre-School & Children, Youth or Adults you can come and gain valuable insights into maximizing your effectiveness in ministering to them. The training is divided by age groups not ministry areas. The training will last from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon. We will have speakers from outside our church come and share their insights with us. If you are involved in working with any of these age groups, or if you are interested in getting plugged in, please make plans to attend. Call the church office so we can better plan for the light breakfast and other accommodations. If you have questions, contact Tommy Cook or Bryan Harris.

ATTENTION WOMEN
A Women’s Choir will be singing for Baptist Women’s Day, September 27th. We need any ladies who would be interested in singing in the choir that day to join us for a choir rehearsal from 7:30—7:50 on Wednesday, September 23rd.

SPIRITUAL RENEWAL WORSHOP
Would you like to know more about God’s will for your life? Do you understand God’s love and what it means to you? Could you be closer to God? Do you know what it really means to love others? If these questions ever cross your mind, then you will want to attend the workshop being held here at First Baptist on November 6th and 7th (Friday evening and part of Saturday.) This will be done in large and small group presentation style, much like a retreat, but in town at our church. This will be a great opportunity of spiritual renewal for Christians. Mark your calendars and make plans now to attend. There will be more information about this event coming soon.

PINE CONE CHRISTMAS TREES
No day to decorate this week. Plan to meet at Shirley Sullivan’s house next Friday, September 25th at 1:00 p.m. We need buttons, shiny buttons to decorate the trees. If you have buttons you can donate, please get them to Carolyn Tharrington.

HOUSEHOLD CLOSET THANK YOU
Thank you for your response to the needs of the Household Closet. We have assisted numerous families over the last few weeks and without your generous response this would not have been possible. Your continued donations are truly a blessing. Please continue to remember the Household Closet needs so we may continue to help families in need. ALSO, we need men who are willing to pick up furniture donations. Although we do not get a lot of furniture donations, we certainly do not want to turn anything away. Furniture donations are not stored in the Household Closet, they are in an easy to load trailer. If you can help, please give us a call. Dianne Shirley (989-9659), Doug Shirley (760-9121)

Everyone is invited to a farewell reception for Edith B. Dail on Saturday, September 26 from 10:30am-Noon in Ryberg Hall hosted by several of her friends.
