The History of the PraiseRingers
In the fall of 1967, a 3-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells was given anonymously to the church. Through the years, additional bells, including a 4-octave set of Malmark bells, have been added through memorial donations and from funds raised by the choirs when performing at weddings, civic club dinners, and other social events.
Our first group, the Youth Handbell Choir, was organized by Mrs. Mary Gordon Batten in 1967. Mrs. Vertie Perry was often the pianist helping the group Mrs. Batten continued to direct this choir until 1974, at which time Mrs. Perry assumed directorship. Throughout the years of bells at our church, we have had many different groups for all ranges of ages, including children, youth, and adult choirs.
In 1982, Mrs. Perry organized a group of young adult ringers, known as the Adult Handbell Choir. Later, they were named Chapel Ringers (1989-1997) and finally the Praise Ringers (1998-). This choir is blessed to still be ringing after 36 years, and with several of the original ringers as a part of the group! To date, there have been two directors of the PraiseRingers: Vertie Perry (1982-2018) and Braxton Kubasko (2018-present).
Who We Are
The PraiseRingers is a more advanced group of handbell ringers at our church. While we have a ton of fun, we work on more advanced material for our yearly events. These events vary widely as a part of the life of our church – from services to community events to outreach events. We also attend PraisRing, an event sponsored by NC Baptists, every year.
If you are interested, in joining the PraisRingers, please email our Minister of Music & Director, Braxton Kubasko (email@example.com)!
